Westport Statue Damaged

Westport Statue Damaged

Slight damage was done to the plinth of the statue of George Glendenning that overlooks the centre of Westport this morning. However, the evident attempt to destroy it (with an explosive device) failed.¹

¹ Cork Examiner , Monday, January 14, 1918. Glendenning, whose statue still overlooks Westport, was described as a Justice of the Peace, a Banker and a Land Agent. So no short of motive to attack his statue.
